Into the Deep

Summary

Nynaeve POV - As Nynaeve runs through the palace she sees Liandrin and Rianna, but fortunately they do not see her. At the prearranged meeting place Elayne, Egeanin and Amathera are waiting. Elayne had another 'talk' with Amathera who is now fully cooperative.1 Amathera says she will provide papers that will allow them to safely leave the city and get by the rebels. Elayne asks why she was late and says she had to restrain Egeanin from going to search. Nynaeve grudgingly begins to accept that Egeanin really is a friend despite being Seanchan. She tells them what happened and that she has the seal and the sad bracelets. They are astounded that she captured one of the Forsaken. A door to the outside opens. Juilin, Bayle and Thom are there with three hundred of Bayle's men. It is total chaos with rioters fighting the Whitecloaks. Back at the Three Plum Court, Elayne introduces Amathera to Rendra as 'Thera,' a refugee. Rendra takes her to the kitchen. Elayne tells them that Amathera has agreed to stay in hiding till she can muster her own troops so she does not have to answer to King Andric. Nynaeve still does not understand how Moghedien escaped. She does not think Moghedien will come after them but she thinks Liandrin might. Nynaeve shows them the seal and the sad bracelets. Bayle recognizes the seal and says he owned one, but Nynaeve does not believe him.2 Elayne tries to melt the sad bracelets with Fire, but they do not react at all. They ask Bayle to throw them in the deepest sea and he agrees, saying he will take them to a place near the Aile Somera.3 The others plan to take the seal back to Tar Valon, then Nynaeve plans to go back to Tear or wherever Lan is.

Notes

  1. That must have been some 'talk.' What Elayne did is never revealed.
  2. Nevertheless, it is true. (TGH,Ch29)
  3. Which just happens to be the location of the Seanchan invasion headquarters. Egeanin must know this so her own intent is not clear. Whatever her intent, she will wind up giving the sad bracelets to Suroth. (WH,Ch21)
