TGS: Chapter 48
Reading the Commentary
|
|
Summary
Min POV Min is in Cadsuane's room with Nynaeve, Corele, Merise and Beldeine. She feels pain and anger through her bond to Rand. She is reading Commentary on the Dragon by Sajius. Erian, Nesune, Sarene and Beldeine are not very welcome near Rand anymore so they have joined Cadsuane's camp. The only Aes Sedai he sees anymore is Nynaeve. She reads:
- He shall hold a blade of light in his hands, and the three shall be one.
She comments that she thinks the interpretation is wrong. Beldeine sniffs. Cadsuane demands to know what Min thinks. Moiraine told Min that Aes Sedai practice exerting control. The interpretation is that "the three" are three nations. But Rand only has one crown and Darlin has the crown of Tear. It means something about how he must use Callandor.1 Cadsuane tells her that she is right and suggests that Beldeine apologize. She leaves in a huff and Karldin follows from a side chamber. That very passage led Cadsuane to investigate Callandor and she learned that it can only be used safely by a circle of three. Nynaeve paces, worried about Lan. Min has a viewing of her:
- She was kneeling over someone's corpse in a posture of grief.2
She also had a viewing of Beldeine:
- A black knife spun around her head
Min says something is still wrong with the interpretation, something they have not discovered, and Cadsuane agrees.1 At that moment Tam bursts into the room in a fury. He demands to know what Cadsuane did to Rand. He says Rand tried to kill him. Min is terrified thinking of her own experience with Rand, but that had been Semirhage, not him. Tam tells Cadsuane that she has a lot to explain and she wraps him in Air. He tells her she is a bully and that irks her enough that she puts him back down. They argue, but Min senses that Rand is gone. The others ask where. She says he has gone to Ebou Dar to destroy the Seanchan.
Notes
- These observations are probably crucial to the Last Battle, but their meaning will likely not be clear until the final book.
- The obvious possibility is Lan, but this could just as easily be someone else close to her.
