Mistress Barran was the Wisdom of Emond's Field prior to Nynaeve al'Meara.

• Mistress Barran apprentices Nynaeve at the early age of fourteen after her previous apprentice dies of a mysterious illness. (TEotW,Earlier, TEotW,Ch21)
• Mistress Barran is one of several who give Mat a licking when, at the age of ten, he cuts open a firework. (TDR,Ch40)
• At the sheep shearing, Mistress Barran watches closely as Nynaeve bandages Bili Congar's leg. (TEotW,Earlier)
