Gentling is

Stilling is

"the act, performed by Aes Sedai, of shutting off a female who can channel from the One Power...A woman who has been stilled can still sense the True Source, but she cannot touch it." (TEotW,Glossary)

• TSR,Ch5 - Stilling cannot be Healed. Women who are stilled seldom live more than a few years.
• TFoH,Ch6 - In the Age of Legends it was called severing. Lanfear tells Rand that Asmodean severed his own mother.
• LoC,Prologue - In the Age of Legends, it was referred to as severing.
• ACoS,Prologue - Alviarin does not believe that stilled women can ever survive for long.
• ACoS,Ch25 - Moghedien recalls the being severed is supposed to be the deepest pain one can know.
• CoT,Ch23 � Cadsuane helped Emarin survive ten years after he was gentled.
